Playoff Qualification

Playoff Qualification

How teams qualify, the playoff format, and scoring breakdown — everything you need to know about postseason play.

The postseason is where session performance pays off. Below is how qualification works, the selection process, and team rules.

  • How do teams qualify for playoffs? Teams are ranked by points during each session. Teams with the most points playoff at the end of each session to qualify for the session prize money and a spot in the year-end finals.

To give a fair chance to all teams of qualifying, along with the top teams we also draw 20% from each group. For example:

Selection tiers (20% from each range):

    • 20% of teams ranked 1–100
    • 20% of teams ranked 101–200
    • 20% of teams ranked 201–300
    • 20% of teams ranked 301–400
    • 20% of teams ranked 401–500
  • Minimum matches required: Teams must have at least ten weekly matches to qualify for playoffs.

  • Do session points carry into playoffs? No! Each team that makes it starts with zero playoff points. Session points do not carry over. It’s a clean slate.

  • How does the playoff format work? Each team member plays 3 individual racks of 8-ball. A player can earn up to 10 points per rack for a total of 30 points (+ bonus points). Five team players × 30 points = 150 points (+ bonus points) per team.
  • What about teams with only 3 players? Each player plays once. Then two of the three are randomly picked to play again — so you still end up with five scores totaling 150 points (+ bonus points).

28-ball made on the break (bonus points)

= 10 points (+ bonus points) per rack.

If a called ball goes in but the 8-ball also goes in, the rack ends — the called ball counts, but the 8-ball does not.

  • Is there a bonus for making the 8 on the break? Yes! You get your choice of groups AND a 2-point bonus added to your score. The 8-ball stays down and counts as 3 points. That’s a big swing — don’t hold back on that break!
